THE GREAT RACE.

With regard to the FAS invitation to the South Court on 11/12 February, we would suggest that instead of committing yourself to any of the courses offered, you might consider an alternative course which would be more suitable to your needs. Some of the private colleges are quite flexible in their approach. We have been speaking directly to some of these private colleges to are prepared

However as we already have pointed there seems to be some confusion as to effect on benefits for someone attending one of these colleges. The FUND was created especially for YOU. In this respect your are in the driving seat or that is as is meant to be. As of now a number of private colleges have taken on many of our members.

We are  very concerned that even at this late stage the criteria as to entitlement has not been established in writing. Or at least we have not seen a copy of these criteria.

YOU are your own Master. YOU are entitled to choose your own career. No one can take that right from you. REMEMBER the European Global Fund in YOURS.

You have a unique opportunity to mark your own mark. Lets grab the reins and enter THE GREAT RACE together.

Claiming from the Fund

Invitation to the South Court on 11/12th February! There seems to be some confusion as to the type of college which may be used for the purpose of training/education. Private colleges and public colleges, ever though they may perform the same function, are being treated differently. Surely it is only logical that the workers involved should at least have some input at to their choice of college to which they would like to attend. Your Association is pursuing this as a matter of urgency. You will be hearing from us.

We invite comments on this and maybe start a conversation!!!

Foxconn take over Dell operation in Lodz Poland

It does not seem to be generally known that Dell has handed over it's operation in Lodz Poland. This intention is that Foxconn would supply Dell from this plant. Dell has further said that its remaining 2,000-strong Irish workforce, which it said are engaged in a range of strategic functions, will not be affected by the transaction. This report has been culled from SiliconRepublic.comRead on

EX-DELL WORKERS MARK FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF ANNOUNCEMENT OF 1900 JOB LOSSES 08 January 2010

DELL EMF3 Raheen Limerick

EX-DELL WORKERS MARK FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF ANNOUNCEMENT OF 1900's JOB LOSSES
08 January 2010

Around one thousand former employees of Dell and it's ancillary companies have registered with the Dell Redundant Workers Association which was formed just over a month ago.

The Association seeks to inform workers of the benefits available under the €23m EU Globalisation Fund and have set up an office at Griffith College on Upper William Street.

They hope to have 2,000 people registered by the end of the month.

Money from the fund is expected to be available in around two weeks time and the committee are expecting a meeting with An Tainaiste Mary Coughlan in the coming days to discuss its distribution.

Today marks the first anniverary of the announcement by the computer giant that it was ceasing manufacturing at it's Raheen plant with the loss of 1900 jobs.

Former employee and Association chairman Denis Ryan hopes to have a better 2010.

You are invited to be part of a revolutionary process in Limerick. Since DELL Computers closed with the loss of 2000 jobs and many more ancillary workers. Among the companies affected were Banta, Sercom Solutions and IEC. Of course the counties of Limerick, Kerry, Clare, Tipperary and Galway were in the loop also.

There is a fund of €23,000,000 of a Globalisation Fund set aside by Europe to help the workers affected. It is hoped that workers would either set up their own businesses or go back to education or both. The Minister For Enterprise And Employment Mary Coughlan has the responsibility of seeing that the Fund is administered.

Here's hoping that 2010 will see an improvement in at least some people lives. Limerick has come back from the brink before and we will do it again.
