EX-DELL WORKERS MARK FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF ANNOUNCEMENT OF 1900's JOB LOSSES
08 January 2010
Around one thousand former employees of Dell and it's ancillary companies have registered with the Dell Redundant Workers Association which was formed just over a month ago.
The Association seeks to inform workers of the benefits available under the €23m EU Globalisation Fund and have set up an office at Griffith College on Upper William Street.
They hope to have 2,000 people registered by the end of the month.
Money from the fund is expected to be available in around two weeks time and the committee are expecting a meeting with An Tainaiste Mary Coughlan in the coming days to discuss its distribution.
Today marks the first anniverary of the announcement by the computer giant that it was ceasing manufacturing at it's Raheen plant with the loss of 1900 jobs.
Former employee and Association chairman Denis Ryan hopes to have a better 2010.
