It’s the New Year and your ongoing daily quest to secure new employment goes on. A major part of this quest is continuing to investigate ways of making a memorable and favourable impression, during the interview process, to build lasting, positive, imprints and to ensure you become a more attractive and desirable candidate. Alternatively, you may actually now be employed but maybe seeking ways to boost your career prospects. Toastmasters International, a thriving, non-profit, organisation, with 250,000 members, in a network of 12,500 clubs, covering 106 countries, can help you develop the communication and leadership skills needed to reach such goals.
If you want to land a good position or speed-up your professional advancement, you may need to be able to express and articulate yourself effectively, as well as ensuring you get your view-points on any particular subject, across, as clearly and consistently as possible, be it at an Interview, Meeting, Group presentation, General conversation or Public speaking environments. To help in achieving your goals, you may need to become a better conversationalist, listener and more confident team leader. You may need the ability to talk and answer questions “off the cuff”. In addition, you may need to be seen to confidently conduct business and/or social meetings in an efficient, organised and timely manner. All these skills can be learned in the supportive setting of a local Toastmasters club.
If your goal in 2010 is to grow socially and/or professionally, the Limerick Toastmasters club, which meets at the Pery Hotel, Glentworth Street, on the first and third Monday of each month, at 8pm for two hours, can help you achieve it. The club, which is over 26 years old, has helped hundreds of men and women from Limerick city and county to develop their communication and leadership skills with poise and confidence. The club organises its’ own affairs and receives training materials, educational awards and administrative assistance from Toastmasters International. The latest meeting date can be found on this website: http://limerick.freetoasthost.ws.
In an atmosphere of friendliness, encouragement, mutual support, and understanding, Limerick Toastmasters will give you all of the tools and resources that you need to become a stronger and better oral communicator, conversationalist and public speaker. Membership of the club is an investment that can pay off in your overall career advancement.
There are no set demographics for joining Limerick Toastmasters and any person over 18, regardless of background, religion, nationality can do so. The ongoing positive, safe and non-judgemental learning environment will help you to enhance your self-confidence and personal growth. Attending any meeting will give you a good in-site and feel on how the meeting is structured and executed. You will soon discover that club members draw strength from one another and take pride in helping each other grow and develop in an atmosphere of fellowship and enjoyment. This spirit of camaraderie and mutual support is one of the most satisfying benefits of being a member of Limerick Toastmasters. It also makes learning educational and fun!
You are welcome to come to the next meeting of Limerick Toastmasters as a guest and then, to come as often as you like without being under pressure to join. Hopefully, during these meetings, you will see, at first hand, the benefits of becoming a member and may decide to join the club, in due course.
The 1st steps are always the hardest because you are trying to do something new. Limerick Toastmasters challenge you to take that first step and go along to any of the pending meetings. You will be glad that you did. In fact, your decision to attend may well change the rest of your life.
Being a member of the Limerick Toastmaster club will help you to achieve and then maintain the ability to consistently organise your thoughts, control your mannerisms, grammar and body language, as well as perfect you’re listening and management skills. Constant practice and refinement is required in order to ensure ongoing, optimum, performance. It’s a bit like brushing your teeth to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
However, it’s not just the ongoing development of new learned skills that the Limerick Toastmasters club offers you. The opportunities for meeting and striking friendships with other people, who are there for the same reasons as yourself, is legendary. The delivery quality of the speeches, along with the range of speech subjects involved, plus, the variety, enthusiasm and skill of the speakers, continues to be a brilliant and valuable source of inspiration, enlightenment and entertainment for all club members and guests.
The “off the cuff” Topics section of the evening remains a popular platform to participate in interesting conversations, as well as providing a great opportunity for participants to renew their fast thinking and speaking skills and to “sharpen the saw”, so to speak. All guests are invited to join in on the Topics section but only if they want to.
